Done but not Dusted

31.12.11

Here are some screen-shots of the final design of niceonecreative.com I hope you like the new look.  As you can tell... I'm kinda into orange.  After the first round of 'criticisms' I simplified the home page and began removing any elements that were not integral to the brand (my brand!)

Please not that the html5 and css3 site has been made for modern browsers... This means it looks like shit in Internet Explorer (ie) but I hope you dont use that rubbish.

The services page.  Simple 3 column grid, subtitles, pictograms.  All tied together by my attempt at literary wit, and a grey/cream/orange scheme.

Shameless Self-Promotion

12.10.11

I designed this a2 sized poster more than 2 months ago, printed it a few times and put it in a cupboard where it was gradually forgotten. Last night I took some detail shots and cringed at my own narcissism.

Gettin All Hurley

7.8.11

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be granted work experience by Hurley International's Sydney Office. I always assumed I would work in the Surf industry when I started my career so it was a great opportunity to see how the industry works and also put my foot in the door.

I was hanging out with illustrator, designer and all-round chiller Christian Halford who is responsible for many of the edgy graphics and prints that Hurley Australia produces.

Here are some designs that I knocked up during my time at Hurley. The theme - California, retro, fun, 50s Surf.

Nice One!

14.6.11

My favourite university project of this semester.  We were asked to create our own identity/branding of a design studio (fictional of course) and build up a recognisable logo, colour scheme and secondary language.

'Nice One! Creative' Logo
The logo was inspired by 'teacher's stamps'.  You know those ones you received in primary school that made you feel just a little bit special?  This is where the star shape entered, 16 points means it can be created out of smaller (conveniently) business card shaped rectangles.  'Nice One!' itself is a term I use all the time, for a variety of different meanings. Keep it versatile Sam my tutor said.  Another reason I used 'Nice One' was due to its relevancy.  Earlier in the semester I interviewed 'The Creative Method's' Tony Ibbutson and one thing that he said really stuck with me: "the name explains the key purpose of the company".  This was in contrast to agency names such as Naughtyfish and Frost, which do not allude to their purpose but rather confuse and misdirect.

The colours I chose for this project didn't really matter.  I felt the logo was bold enough to stand alone and be recognisable without a colour scheme.

For the business cards I used a mixture of colours, some worked, some didn't.  In the end I had some sort of disco themed card rack, but in reality I would choose the card based on the client. The texture was made up of stamps which I had ordered from rubberstamps.net. Hand cut the 16pt star into the cover to show detail from inside.

'Nice One! Creative' Brand package
In the end I am very happy with this project and I can't wait to develop it further beyond university.  During the final stages of the assessment I trademarked the logo, registered the business name and bought a website domain.  So... I guess I'm ready to start taking over the world, later.
